Sailing Out of Grain (UK/Olympic Games, London 2012)

Directed by: Juan Soto

Sailing out of Grain is the result of a collaboration between Delgado and the yachts sailor Hilary Lister, who together embarked on a journey to explore her inner world, her life, dreams and achievements. Through an observational camera, Delgado composed an intimate portrait of this extraordinary, yet vulnerable woman whose body has steadily became paralyzed due to a progressive neurological disorder.

The project took the artist and the sailor beyond the physical, creating a poetical moving image installation revealing Lister’s internal, psychological experiences and motivations. Drawing on poetic and evocative images, Sailing out of Grain is a non-linear narrative split over three screens, with a nuanced, naturalistic soundscape. It explores themes of dreams and reality, freedom and confinement, and challenges our perception of what constitutes the ‘perfect sports body’.
Presented at the Olympic Games, London 2012.
